Best wishes to all for a happy holiday season. Take time to enjoy family, friends and all that the season offers of art, music and fellowship.
RECENT ACTIVITIES
We enjoyed are final potluck and several members brought greeting cards they had made, to share.
The Art Association Elves have been busy and art supply gifts will join other toys and gifts for youngsters in the community on December 19th, supporting the work of the Kiwanis annual gift program. Kiwanis serves approximately 700 children with their program and gives support to other gifting programs in the County.
ONGOING WORK OF THE ASSOCIATION STILL AHEAD
The Association still has a couple of initiatives underway, including the 2024-25 High School Scholarships, and a hoped for one-time support effort for the Fine Arts Academy.
Discussions continue at the Associations Board meetings as to the use of any remaining funds in the Association accounts when dissolution occurs. Given the timeline for scholarships, it is estimated that this will take place in late summer 2025, when the scholarship recipients submit their schedules showing enrollment in art related classes to receive their scholarship checks.
The Art Associations was incorporated in 1963 and list the following items in the incorporation document as the primary purpose of the non-profit:
- Promote love and appreciation of art, museum pieces and historical data
- Foster and encourage young artists
- Cooperate with other Civic organizations in promoting Civic pride and activities for the beautification of Atascadero and surrounding area
- Promote and encourage the establishment and maintenance of quarters for preserving and showing works of art, museum pieces and historical data for public benefit
This statement of purpose will be used to guide the Association Board in making a final determination on the disposition of funds.
CONTINUED LEARNING
For those interested in continued learning, remember to keep an eye on:
- Atascadero’s Recreation
- Cuesta Emeritus
- Cuesta Community Programs
- Art Central
- Morro Bay Art Center
IMPORTANT NOTICE
On November 13, 2024 the current Association Board met to discuss how to proceed, given the lack of volunteers for the 2025 Association Board. The Board voted unanimously to dissolve the Association. This means that the Atascadero Art Association, as an incorporated non-profit, will cease to exist at some point in 2025. It was agreed at the meeting that the current Board will continue to operate the Association until current obligations are complete. You will not receive the usual membership renewal form this year, and no membership checks should be sent. The Association’s website will continue through the Summer of 2025 and updates on the disbursement of funds and other news will be posted there as it is available.
If you are interested in participating in an art association, Paso Robles is probably the closest and has a gallery space. Morro Bay also has a full gallery space and a space for demonstrations and classes.
The Board is currently looking at other local non-profits to accept its scholarship funds for High School students, and other remaining funds.

Virginia Mack talks about the CMY color system- Cyan,Magenta,Yellow
As CMY is used by printers, it can be used to recreate almost any color.
She uses Holbein’s Marine Blue, Winsor-Newton’s Permanent Rose and Yellow for her CMY colors. These produce vibrant and transparent mixes.
Patricia Newton demonstrated how to get going on a seascape to capture the movement and translucence of the water, adding froth and foam to finish it off.
