Message from the Board, July 2023

July is shaping up to be a busy month.  First of all is the Reception for our combined show with the other North County Art Associations at Studios on the Park, 1130 Pine Street in Paso Robles.  Please try to attend the reception which will be on July 1st from 6 PM to 9PM at the Studios. There will be a second reception on August 5th, also from 6 PM to 9PM.  If you have never been to Studios on the Park it is a very interesting multi-artist studio, generally open every day from Noon to 4PM.

Next on your calendar is the pick-up of your art if you entered the Member show at The ARTery in Atascadero.  Please collect your art the first week of July and take a moment to thank the owner ZoĂ© Arkfeld, for sponsoring our show.

The Mid-State Fair opens July 19th, and we look forward to seeing our member's art on display.  There are always many interesting and beautiful pieces at the Fair, and we encourage you to take a look as well as see lovely quilting and needle craft work.  If you are not a big fan of noise and crowds, go early in the day and then get the heck out of Dodge before the crowds hit for the evening.  Senior's Day is Friday July 21st. Fair opens at noon on Friday and admission is half price. The Fair is also a great place to take reference photos of people, animals, and all that crazy Fair stuff.

Last, but DEFINITELY not least, is this month's demonstration of portrait work. The demonstration will be done by Anita Hampton. If you have not taken the time to look at her website, I would encourage you to do so at:  anitahampton.com. The demonstration will be Saturday July 22nd at 2:30PM in the Martin Polin room, upstairs in the County Library building, so there will be lots of room

It was great to see some of you at the Lake Park for our annual warm weather potluck.  The weather was wonderful and we had a few brave souls ready to take on Plein Air.  We hope to see more of you next year.

We are working on the programs for the remainder of the year and will keep you posted on what is coming.  In the Fall we will be kicking off the election season (a MUCH LESS painful one than those political ones) so start thinking about whether you would be interested in volunteering an hour or so a month to participate in the Art Association Board. The Board decides on spending for Scholarships and other art sponsorships and donations, and demonstrations and activities.

NEW NEWS FORMAT
As we noted in the June Newsletter, we have been discussing how to replace the Newsletter with another easy to read format.  We have decided on using the website.  Each month, just the same as occurs now, you will receive an email. The difference is, the email will contain a link to the website rather than the Newsletter itself.  You can verify that it is not spam, by checking that the link says "
atascaderoart.org".  There is no login / user name required, the website collects NO information about you, and it does NOT put "cookies" on your computer.  In other words, it's pretty safe to use.
The link will take you to the HOME page which will have the information that usually comes in your Newsletter. There may be links to other pages in the message.

Once you are on the website you can explore the events page which has links and additional details about classes being offered in the area.

And don't forget the Member Gallery. Any member can send in pictures to be included in the Gallery and can include a personal website (for professionals) and your email, or if you are not comfortable posting a personal email, the Art Associations email can be used and we will forward any contacts to you at the email on file.  Look for the link on the Gallery page on how to enter your art in the Gallery.

We will continue with the paper Newsletter for the remainder of the year, for those of you who get it in the regular mail.  If you have internet access, even though you get a paper Newsletter, please take a look at the website and get to know your way around.
